Get Your Students Recognized

Is a student you teach or advise produced award-worthy work and you intend to enter that work into one or more media competitions, come talk to us.

Creative Central maintains a database of regional and national media competitions in the fields of journalism, advertising, public relations, and media research.

We take care of submitting student work for you.

For competitions support, please fill out this form: https://rb.gy/9s9pj or book time with Maya Lazaro.

Why Care About Media Competitions?

  • If your student wins, they’ll have the knowledge that their work was ranked among the best.
  • Some competitions offer prize money or scholarship funding.
  • Awards look good to employers, as they indicate outstanding work. Students can include awards they’ve won on their resume, cover letter, portfolio, and LinkedIn profile.
  • Competition judges are usually industry professionals, creating an opportunity to network and get your students’ name out there.
  • Many competitions share judges’ feedback and critique, allowing students to learn from experts.
  • Students may be invited to attend an awards ceremony or conference if they win, which is another opportunity to network with industry pros and emergivng talent from other universities.

Recent major wins: Wesley LaPointe (Journalism, ’22) placed first in the Hearst 2023 National Photojournalism Competition. LaPointe took home $10,000 in prize money, and the SOJC received a matching grant from Hearst.
