Comms and Marketing Support Criteria

The SOJC Comms Team develops and distributes external-facing communications focusing on reputation, recruitment, and relationship building with prospective students, alumni, and donors. While our purview often extends to supporting faculty and staff projects and events that fit into those categories, our small team unfortunately lacks the resources to support all requests. Check the criteria below to find out your next steps.

Level 1: Fully supported by Comms Team

  • Project/activity/event is for external audiences: prospective students, alumni, donors, reputational storytelling for the public.
    • Note: any materials promoting the SOJC itself and/or any of our academic programs, to any audience, are to be produced by the Comms Team.
  • Project aligns with the SOJC Strategic Plan and key messaging points.
  • Project/activity/event is approved by the dean and set as a priority for the school.
  • Comms Team is a strategic partner that will determine the best ways to promote stories and events.

Next steps:

  • If applicable, submit via one of our intake forms:
  • Reach out to the following Comms Team members if you need more information:
  • If accepted, Comms Team will schedule a kickoff meeting.
    • For stories: count on 4-6 weeks turnaround time from submission to publication, which includes assignment to student writer, editing by Comms Team, publishing on the SOJC website, pitching to Around the O and other UO channels, and sharing on social.
    • For designed/printed items for qualifying projects and events, here’s what you can expect:
      • Plan for a minimum of 4–6 weeks lead time, including two weeks to write/edit copy; two weeks to design; and if printing is required, allow another two weeks minimum. Larger scale projects will require more time.
      • Consider your budget ahead of time, and have a printing index ready.
      • Our standard design process includes an initial proof of one design concept, with time for one round of revisions.
      • The Comms Team will coordinate with Printing on your behalf, and can provide you with printing estimates by request.
      • The Comms Team will not provide native design files. Updates or reprints will need to be requested via the contacts above.

Level 2: Faculty/staff must develop themselves

  • Project/activity/event is created by a faculty or staff member for internal audiences, such as current students, staff, or faculty.
  • Event does not align with the strategic plan or key messaging points.
  • Event has not been endorsed by the dean or set as a priority for the school by the dean.
  • Event applies to a small segment of SOJC’s target audiences.
